The Wound Healing Center at Marion Regional Healthcare System—Adding Life to Those Years
It was nearly eight years ago when Dillon resident, Louise Hamilton, pointed out a scaly patch on her leg to her daughter, Pat Bullock.
Hoping that it would heal on its own, the mother-daughter team used a host of over the counter products and topical applications. Instead of healing however, the affected area continued to grow larger, eventually becoming an open wound and a source of great pain.
“The wound affected my mother’s mental and general well-being,” said daughter, Pat. “Mother was constantly picking at it. She could no longer wear hosiery and even the fabric from pants seemed to make the situation worse.” There was no doubt about it; the open sore was beginning to affect Mrs. Hamilton’s mobility and the quality of her life.
Countless trips to area physicians provided no relief. Prescription drugs and in-office treatments were not working. The duo was at wit’s end.
It was not until Mrs. Hamilton moved to the Mullins Nursing Center, that the situation took a turn for the better. As an affiliate of Marion Regional Healthcare System, Mullins Nursing Center had access to the services and physicians of the regional medical center including its Wound Healing Center.
Through an office visit with a hospital-based physician, Mrs. Hamilton, became one of the many patients referred to Marion Regional Healthcare System’s Wound Healing Center. “It was the best day of my life,” she declares, and daughter, Pat echoes those sentiments.
“My mother could have lost her leg,” she said. “Instead, she has regained her mobility and a new lease on life. Dr. Krishnan and the team of medical professionals prescribed a series of treatments for my mother that were truly the best thing that has ever happened to her—or to me for that matter.”
At 93 years young, Louise Hamilton, still has a lot of living to do. The Wound Healing Center at Marion Regional Healthcare System just made that living a little more enjoyable.
