Marion Regional Healthcare System Places First

Marion, SC--Marion Regional Healthcare System placed first in the inaugural 2009 Hospital Hazmat (Hazardous Materials) Team Challenge held recently at Loris Community Hospital. The competition included teams from area hospitals performing basic Hazmat Team Operations in simulated and task-oriented scenarios.

Consisting of Wayne Collins (Disaster/Safety Coordinator), Lindsay Stroud (Infection Control Nurse), Torie McMillan (Physical Therapist Assistant), Kenneth Lasane (CNA, Orderly), Brandy Parnell (Administrative Assistant) and Michael Suchy (Respiratory Therapist), Marion Regional Healthcare’s team consistently outperformed the competition on exercises ranging from hazardous material identification, to more physical exercises including maneuvering an obstacle course with a 35 pound fluid-filled drum.

“We’re extremely proud of our team,” said Harold E. (Gene) Tucker, President and CEO of Marion Regional Healthcare System.  This was simply a demonstration of what they could do in the event of a real emergency.”

Marion Regional Healthcare System was recently recognized as a Disaster Control Center and equipped with the communications equipment that would make it a ‘hub’ in the event of an incident involving hazardous materials or a weather-related event such as a hurricane or tropical storm.

Located on Highway 76 between Marion and Mullins, Marion Regional Healthcare Center provides the best in medical technology and is home to some of the area’s most advanced medical equipment. For more information call 843-431-2000 or visit them on the web at http://www.marioncountymedical.com
