| Marion, SC--Marion County Medical Center has announced the association of Stephen P. Regec, M.D., FACOG. Dr. Regec, who is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology will join the Hospital on March 5. “We are extremely pleased to make this announcement,” said Gene Tucker, CEO. “Dr. Regec has a great deal of experience and will be a great asset to our community,” he continued. Dr. Regec received his B.S. in pre-medicine from Pennsylvania State University and his medical degree from the State University of New York-Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. He completed his internship in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. In 2004, Dr. Regec obtained his MBA from Alvernia College in Reading, Pennsylvania making him one of the elite few with advanced degrees in both medicine and business. He has been named to membership in two of the country’s top honor societies recognizing academic excellence: alpha epsilon delta, a medical honor society and alpha epsilon lambda, an MBA honor society. Prior to joining Marion County Medical Center, Dr. Regec was involved in private practice (obstetrics/gynecology) and associated with DuBois Regional Medical Center in DuBois, Pennsylvania. Other associations include Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital and Elk County Hospital in St. Mary’s and Ridgeway, Pennsylvania respectively. For over twenty years, he has served as a clinical instructor for physician assistant students--most recently at the renowned Duquesne University in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Well-known for his research, his work has appeared in the Journal of Reproductive Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Regec’s list of major administrative positions include: President Jefferson County Medical Society, 2002-Present Chief of Surgery DuBois Regional Medical Center, 1995-1999 Chief of Obstetrics DuBois Regional Medical Center, 1983-1994 Chief of Staff Elk County Hospital, 1982 President Elk-Cameron County Medical Society, 1982 and Chief of Obstetrics Elk County Hospital, 1979-1982 “Dr. Regec’s list of professional society memberships is just as extensive and impressive,” said Gene Tucker. They include: the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, Jefferson County Medical Society, American Fertility Society, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics, and the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. Dr. Regec, who is a specialist in pulmonary research and hyperbaric medicine, has often been consulted on projects of national scope and interest. In July, 2006, in conjunction with NOAA (the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association), Dr. Regec participated in a hyperbaric study. “The use of hyperbaric medicine and his development of a hyperbaric oxygen program in a community hospital setting will be beneficial to our entire region,” said Gene Tucker. Hyperbaric medicine is a known therapy for wounds including those associated with diabetes.” “I anticipate that Dr. Regec will achieve great success and notoriety in the Pee Dee and the entire State of South Carolina,” continued Gene Tucker. “We are extremely fortunate that he chose Marion County, and specifically Marion County Medical Center.” Dr. Regec and his wife will be relocating to Marion from DuBois, Pennsylvania.
