Diversity Policy

POLICY:

It is the policy of the Marion Regional Healthcare System to maintain a non-discriminatory  environment in which the diversity of our employees, patients, visitors, customers, vendors and all those individuals, groups and organizations that help us to achieve our mission, vision, values, ethics and goals are valued.

PURPOSE:

MRHS will embrace and respect all individuals’ contributions regardless of their diversity, and will provide an environment for inclusion which brings diverse backgrounds, talents, and populations into our institution.

All of our policies, procedures and practices (which include Corporate Compliance, EEO, disciplinary, Hiring, Promotion, Wage and Salary et cetera) are by implication to be sensitive to, and committed to, ensuring that diversity is woven into our cultural fabric, and maintained to develop multicultural awareness and organizational cultural competency.

Continual strides will be made to identify and remove diversity-related barriers. The successful incorporation and impact of human differences such as age, educational background, experience, gender, lifestyle, ethnicity, nationality, physical ability, race, and religion, is expected to increase our organization’s diversity proficiency.

LEADERSHIP:

All system Leaders will monitor and make recommendations to ensure that MRHS remains in full compliance with Title II and VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Aggregate tracking and trending of data by the Human Resources Department will validate progression.

All MRHS strategies will be deliberated and committed to creating a culture which allows individuals to both give and receive mutual respect in their relationships with co-workers and customers. MRHS will expect all constituents to be accountable for assisting with the development and nurturance of this environment. Training will be provided to teach how diversity can leverage everyone’s’ ability to contribute to the overall mission, vision and goals of the organization. Diversity will be utilized to provide a competitive edge, not preferential treatment.

MRHS will develop, monitor, implement and promote a Diversity Advocacy Plan to include clear goals, policies and procedures, operational plans, management and staff accountability, and oversight mechanisms.

RESPONSIBILITY:

A Diversity Council shall serve as a consultative resource for edification on community outreach, training, vendor relations, and the development of a multi-cultural and multi-faceted workforce and customer base.

The Diversity council shall celebrate and be reflective of the workforce on all levels and the community which the organizations serves. It shall also seek input from community representatives who will share and address healthcare issues related to our diverse constituency.

The Diversity Council will post MRHS ideals, vision and goals, and trend strategic progression towards Diversity initiates, as well as communicate advancement of the Diversity Program to our Board and the constituents we serve.

If we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity.
